Final Days in Munich

This blog post will summarize the rest of my adventures in the city of Munich.  On Monday we visited the BMW production plant and toured the entire assembly line.  The tour was great and we were able to see the full construction of a BMW car from the production of parts to the customization of the paint and features of the car.  The coolest part of this tour was all of the robots that were part of the production line.  Later that day we rode out to Aying and visited Ayinger brewery.  This was a unique tour because this was a very modern brewery that was fully automated.  They only have two brewers and one lab specialist who are actually working to brew the beer.  This was a beautiful tour and the beer was delicious!  I was excited because I was able to taste the Urweisse (the beer I blogged about earlier) from tap.  It was much better at the brewery.

We also toured Paulaner Brewery.  This brewery was previously a monastic brewery, but now it is a commercial brewery.  This tour was fantastic.  The brewing student who gave us the tour helped us understand the brewing process on a deeper level.  The brewer invited us to return to watch their brewing process.  The next day a few of us returned to the brewery to watch the brewing process.  This was a fantastic process and we actually got to help the brewers clean the lauter tun.  I learned so much about the brewing process!

On our last day in Munich, we visited Andechs and toured Kloster Andechs brewery.  We climbed to the top of the holy mountain and toured the monastery.  This is a brewery that was founded and is still managed by Benedictine monks.  This was a great tour because we got to see the entire process.  Afterwards we sat on the terrace that overlooked the countryside and had beer and coffee.  This was the most picturesque view; there are literally no words to describe the experience.  We also got to see the church that was par of the monastery.  The exterior was fairly plain but the interior was decorated in the rococo style and was stunning.  The view of the Alps from the top of the holy mountain was breathtaking.  Again, there are no words to describe how magnificent the scene was.  This was the perfect day I will never forget it!
